Mental Health Trainings

The Purpose

Since the pandemic, there has been an increase in people reaching out for counseling, but there has been a disconnect between clients and counselors, who they believe will be accepting, affirming and non judgmental to whatever topics they want to discuss. The purpose of this series is to create a safe space to start the difficult conversations, ask the questions and receive the information, guidance and learn best practices, from the counselors that specialize with working with these populations, so that you can begin working with more diverse populations and expand your scope of practice.

During this series, we will practice taking accountability, but we will approach the content from a developmental perspective based on the comfort level of the participants. Participants will learn vocabulary, practice, identify, and address patterns they may need to unlearn, How to rebuild the trust with clients and begin to be a more inclusive provider.

Past Conversations

What is Gender?

We will focus on providing psychoeducation on gender, sex, and sexuality. Participants will learn vocabulary, practice, identify and address patterns they may need to unlearn, and begin building a more inclusive provider referral list. During this conversation, we will examine our own biases around gender, sex and sexuality and learn how this can impact internalized homophobia. We will also discuss ways to be a more inclusive counselor, by making quick yet intentional changes to your websites, paperwork and other professional information and techniques to use to ensure clients feel welcomed.
