Trauma Intensive Therapy

The intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in individuals impacted by trauma- and stressor-related experiences, and the economy for participating in Therapy Intensives is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on:

  • Checking in at the beginning of each session
  • Addressing current crises and concerns
  • Focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or
  • Assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.

What is Intensive Therapy?
Trauma impacts everyone differently. Intensive Therapy is a powerful way to increase the healing and relief that you would experience in a standard 50-minute session. Instead of going to counseling sessions weekly for an hour and possibly losing the momentum week to week, you get to plan for a specific allotted time, like 3 hours, or 2-3 days in a week or weekend, for more intensive therapeutic work. It is a concentrated way to get the effectiveness of therapy without having the time in between sessions. While everyone is unique in their experience, some have found they can do 2 to 3 months’ worth of healing and work they would have gotten in weekly sessions into one or two intensive sessions.

Is intensive therapy right for you?
Therapy intensives are suitable for individuals seeking a focused and accelerated approach to healing. Consider a therapy intensive if you:
  • Have a desire for rapid progress in addressing trauma, stressful life experiences, or anxiety.
  • Prefer a concentrated and immersive therapeutic experience.
  • Are committed to actively participating in your healing journey.

Why do an intensive?
  • You want to experience deep therapeutic work that can change your life.
  • You had a very painful experience that is still impacting you today.
  • You have done EMDR before and found it helpful for your healing and wellbeing.
  • You want to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for a big life event like a wedding, becoming a parent, a medical procedure, starting a new job, or moving to a new city.
  • You already go to weekly therapy, and you feel stuck or on the verge of a breakthrough.
